Books – updated 2024-04-17

I have written four books that contain my “What-I-wish-I-knew-when-starting-my-career” understanding.  They also relay the material that I taught in my engineering courses.  Three of the books are explanations and practice associated with common and essential engineering analysis techniques – Statistics, Modeling, and Optimization.  The fourth Nonlinear Control is about new techniques for applying nonlinear process models to control. The images of the book covers are links.  The books are:

Applied Engineering Statistics, 2nd Edition, R. R. Rhinehart and R. M. Bethea, Taylor & Francis CRC Press, Boca Raton, FL, 2022, ISBN: 9781032119489, 470 pages, with companion web site www.r3eda.com.  Errata can be accessed with Errata Statistics 2nd Edition 2022-01-07.   The first edition is R. M. Bethea and R. R. Rhinehart, Chapman & Hall/CRC (originally Marcel Dekker, Inc.), 1991, ISBN 0-8247-8503-7, 400 pages.   Errata can be accessed with Errata Statistics 2018-07-13.

Nonlinear Regression Modeling for Engineering Applications: Modeling, Model Validation, and Enabling Design of Experiments, R. R. Rhinehart, John Wiley & Sons Ltd, 2016, ISBN 9781118957965, 360 pages.   Errata can be accessed with Errata Regression 2019-06-15.

Engineering Optimization: Applications, Methods, & Analysis, R. R. Rhinehart, John Wiley & Sons, 2018, ISBN-13: 978-1118936337, ISBN-10: 1118936337, 776 pages.   Errata can be accessed with Errata Optimization 2019-06-15.

Nonlinear Control Using First-Principles Models, my newest book, was published by ISA in early 2024.

I have also published handbook/encyclopedia chapters related to process control, optimization, propagation of uncertainty, fuzzy-logic, and neural networks; and tutorials on statistical process control, model-based control, steady-state identification, statistically-based filters, and others.

Some of this material is available on this web site in tutorial versions.  Use the contact page if you would like to offer suggestions, ask questions, or request other material.

My hope is that the publications are helpful to those who use the techniques in the practice of engineering.
